ON MY MORNING WALK: Chico Condors

     ON MY MORNING WALK:

Chico Condors

Early on Wednesday morning I happened to talk out onto a small plateau south of "Walden", a large flat area through which an overflow creek from the lake flows, bordered on the east by some very large, impressive, expensive homes. As I walked through the meadow, a turkey vulture (otherwise known as a "Chico Condor" swooped low over my head and a few seconds later a second "condor" flew over, and though unprepared, I did manage to catch a snapshot of him. It's not unusual for the "condors" to come close to me as I think that they are used to my presence and I often wave at them or even talk to them as they circle overhead. Well, I followed these two birds a short way and I found myself laughing aloud when I discovered where they had gone - there they sat in the golden light of dawn on the roof of one of the nearby, lavish homes. Now, I can't venture to say if there was some portent of death or impending calamity, or that there was some other symbolism attached to their roost (either intentionally or not) but it certainly tickled me and my somewhat socialist heart.
