ON MY MORNING WALK: Meet Napoleon On my morning walk...Meet Napoleon. He's a green-winged teal and the only one I know of at "Walden;" and no, this is not a baby. Green-winged teals are the smallest of the dabbling ducks (a freshwater duck that typically feeds in shallow water by dabbling and upending, such as the mallard, teal, shoveler, and pintail.) He's also a little speed-demon on the water but what makes Napoleon stand out (aside from being far south of his usual breeding ground and unique to "Walden" is the fact that this tiny guy leads a group of much larger mallards around the lake...kind of a "dux mafia." He can be seen feeding and sleeping with them (they share a small island when it isn't inundated like it has been the last couple of days) and where he goes...they go! © 2019 by Hayato Tokugawa and the Kitty Mafia Art Worx™.
